The Perfect Page

At Bournville, to improve the quality of education there has recently been a focus on presentation. Leaders recognised that high standards in learning must be reflected in the way students record and organise their work. Inconsistent layouts and unclear expectations could limit students’ ability to think and communicate with precision.

The introduction of a “Perfect Page” established clear, consistent expectations across every subject: date and title, underlined headings, structured paragraphs, an emphasis on key vocabulary, and clear responses to feedback. By modelling excellence and embedding these routines school-wide, teachers reduced cognitive load and helped students focus more sharply on subject knowledge and skills.

We are already starting to see impact. Work is becoming more organised, extended writing improving, and feedback acted upon more effectively. Most importantly, students are developing habits of clarity, pride, and academic discipline.

At Bournville, the Perfect Page was more than a presentation policy — it was a commitment to raising the quality of education through consistent, visible standards of excellence.
