Remembrance

Remembrance Day, observed on 11th November each year, is a time to honour the brave men and women of the armed forces who gave their lives in service during the First World War and in conflicts that followed. It is a moment of reflection and gratitude, reminding us of the immense sacrifices made to secure the freedoms we enjoy today. This tradition is not only a national act of remembrance but also a powerful lesson in unity and respect.

At Bournville School, one of our core Trust values is Tradition, and Remembrance Day is a profound example of this value in action. Tradition matters because it connects us to something bigger than ourselves—it reminds us that we are part of a shared history and a community that values respect, courage, and sacrifice. In years to come, we hope our students will look back and remember being part of these poignant moments, knowing they contributed to honouring this legacy.

Today, our students made us immensely proud in the way they conducted themselves. The entire school assembled outside in silence, creating a solemn atmosphere of reflection. Our Student Leaders led the commemoration by reading the poignant poems ‘Remembrance’ and ‘For the Fallen’, a piece that captures the enduring legacy of those who served. Following this, the whole school observed the traditional two-minute silence with complete respect and composure.

Leading up to the event students supported by their form tutors had made wreaths and to finish the event, our school council stepped forward to present their wreaths to our unknown soldiers, a fitting end to our service which is always a very special event in the Bournville School calendar.  All of the school community come together, demonstrate respect and solemnity in an awe-inspiring way.
