Balfour Beatty visit

As part of our year 9 BTEC Tech Award in Enterprise, we give students an insight into the world of work.  This morning Balfour Beatty visited our lesson to answer student questions about the construction industry. Students were eager to know what qualifications you need to work for Balfour Beatty and what a typical day is like for their staff.

The highlight of the visit was a tour around the new primary school site which is in its last few weeks of construction.  Year 9 students were able to experience a building site for themselves and learn about the construction of a building from design through to the final stages of construction.  The site manager was proud to tell us floors and ceilings are now the last big job to do and they expect to finish on schedule. Students listened with interest to hear how many employees have been involved with the build and the variety of roles needed to achieve success.

Students will now use this experience to write a report for their coursework comparing the work of a multi-national organisation like Balfour Beatty to a local small or medium enterprise. Thank you to the team at Balfour Beatty for giving them so much to write about!
