Our Y7 students have settled into their first term superbly, learning new routines and adopting ‘the Bournville Way’ with ease. With so many of them coming from different primary schools and not knowing each other well, a team building day was arranged for them to help them to work with other students and make friends.
In groups of 12, students moved between problem solving activities. They were encouraged to take ownership of their learning, using critical thinking to develop ideas on how to solve the challenges. Their social skills were also enhanced as they learned to communicate with their team mates, on plans and solutions as well as evaluating their own performance after each activity. Our KS4 sports leaders provided guidance and we were proud of the responsibility they showed, stepping in to get the best from their groups.
The day finished with a fun, inclusive event incorporating all the students which proved to be a great way to conclude the day, leaving students in high spirits.
At Bournville we place great importance in developing character and encourage our students to STRIVE for success. Today they earned an incredible number of STRIVE points for their self-discipline, resilience, initiative as well as problem-solving and communication.
We are really proud of the way they represented the school and applaud their efforts!
