In a thrilling finale to a fantastic year of sport, the Bournville School Year 7 Boys basketball team dug deep to secure a hard-fought 19-14 victory, claiming the prestigious Birmingham & West Midlands Basketball Competition title. From the opening tip-off, it was clear that this was going to be a high-intensity battle. Bournville came into the game with a clear strategy, and the boys worked tirelessly from start to finish to implement the game plan. Central to that execution was Oscar, who put on a masterclass at point guard. Oscar controlled the tempo of the game beautifully, slowing things down when needed and picking apart the opposition defence with superb vision and poise under pressure.
Basketball is a team game, and this championship win was the definition of a total team effort. Bournville utilised a tight six-man rotation, and every single player who stepped onto the court left everything out there. Oscar orchestrated the play with great maturity, with Peter, Ayoub, Radman, Harrison, and Zaki all stepping up in clutch moments, whether it was pulling down crucial defensive rebounds, diving for loose balls, or working the extra pass on offense, all six boys contributed hugely to the win.
What stood out most, however, was the team’s character. Facing a tough opponent, the boys showed incredible work ethic, resilience when the pressure mounted, and seamless teamwork. Just as importantly, they played the entire match with fantastic spirit and sportsmanship, representing Bournville School impeccably.
We are incredibly proud of the boys’ achievement. Bringing home the silverware is a massive milestone, and it caps off an encouraging year of fixtures at Bournville School.
Congratulations to the champions!
