On Thursday 1st Feb, the same day that the yr 10 and 11 boys went to compete in the School Games Badminton first round, I took eight yr 10 and 11 girls to Hillcrest School to compete against Hillcrest and Shenley A and B teams. All players worked super hard, trying out a range of tactics in both their singles and doubles games.
The B team consisted of Martyna Rosenburg, Lillie Stacey, Charlie Jade Hillier and Cleo Sherrif Jeffery. They were drawn to play against Shenley A team and Hillcrest A team so they had a tough round on their hands. Key performances were Martyna who won her first singles game and lost her second singles game by only 1 point. Lillie lost her games only a couple of points. Charlie lost her first singles game but pulled it back beating her second singles opponent 9-8. Unfortunately between the singles and doubles matches, they did not win enough to make it through this group stage but were all in high spirits for the enjoyable experience they have had.
The A team consisted of Hannah Murray, Yasmin Osumanu, Jenna Mills and Hannah Tolley. They were drawn to play against Hillcrest B and Shenley B Teams. Both Hannah’s won their first single matches quite easily, but Yasmin and Jenna lost out by just 1 point. Hannah and Yasmin then went on to win their doubles game which led to a tie on games in this first match. Next they had to play Shenley B who had only managed to put out two players – Hannah and Yasmin won their singles games and their doubles game this time. This led to them finishing top in their group.
All A teams were neck and neck on number of games won, therefore the decider of who should go to the final went down to points, and Bournville made it through to play against Shenley A. It was nail biting stuff with some fantastic clears, smashes and tactical plays. At the end of this round, we were neck and neck on games won as Hannah and Jenna won their singles matches and the Hannah/Yasmin doubles pair also won, but unfortunately the other 3 games were lost. Once again we had to count up the number of points won. Results
Bournville 58 points, Shenley 48 points – Congratulations to the A team who are now through to the finals at Joseph Chamberlain College to be held at the end of Feb!
