Reading Matters!

The Importance of Reading

Reading has always been a fundamental part of education, helping students develop imagination, knowledge, and critical thinking skills. Books open doors to new worlds, ideas, and perspectives, allowing young people to grow not only academically but also personally. Strong reading habits are closely linked to improved writing, better concentration, and increased confidence across all subjects.

To support these benefits, the school has introduced a new policy: all students are now required to carry a reading book as part of their daily equipment. This simple change is designed to encourage regular reading, whether during free periods, tutor time, or unexpected moments when learning time becomes available.

By having a book on hand, students can make better use of their time and build consistent reading habits. Over time, even a few minutes of reading each day can make a significant difference in vocabulary, comprehension, and overall academic success.

A letter explaining this new policy has been sent home to parents and carers. Please take the time to read it carefully, as it outlines the expectations and the reasons behind this important change. Together, we can foster a culture of reading that will benefit every student now and in the future.
