Drama

Subject Vision

Learning experiences in Drama should be moments that students remember and ideally treasure for life. Drama provides vital opportunities to engage, explore and express; to expand knowledge; to practise, experiment with and master a wide range of creative and performance skills. Through encountering the best theatre practice across time and across nations, students learn how dramatic ideas, forms and conventions work, and how they can be challenged, reshaped or subverted.

We aim for students to collaborate authentically and become fully absorbed in the creative process with enthusiasm, imagination and critical awareness. Our ambition is for every learner to move confidently and progressively forward, always ready to dig deeper, think harder and create with purpose.

Every decision we make – whether developing, enhancing or reviewing learning inside or beyond the classroom is rooted in the best interests of the child. We are committed to ensuring that all students, regardless of any barriers, value learning, invest in their creative choices and recognise how the arts help us decode, question and understand the strange and complex human world around us.

  • Deeply connected to the wider curriculum, making strong contributions to English, Citizenship and the arts, with purposeful links to Art, Design and Technology and Music.

Intent

We have carefully designed our Drama Curriculum, ensuring it meets the rigorous requirements of the exam board specification. Our ambitious curriculum clearly outlines the knowledge and skills pupils gain at each stage of their learning journey. You will see the clear endpoints the curriculum is building towards. These have been carefully sequenced to help pupils progress well over time. We have high academic ambition for all of our pupils and we adapt this curriculum accordingly to meet the needs of all our young people.
