Y10 HSC students learn first aid

Our Level 2 Health and Social Care students recently had the chance to take part in hands-on first aid training with expert trainers from St Johns Ambulance. The session taught them life-saving skills such as CPR, wound care and the importance of the recovery position in the event of an emergency.

This training didn’t just give them practical skills—it also boosted their confidence and prepared them should they choose to continue to work in care homes, hospitals and community healthcare teams in the future.  First aid isn’t just a skill—it’s a way to make a real difference in someone’s life, especially in high-pressure moments. Our students are now better equipped to handle whatever challenges come their way.

Feedback from students was positive:

“I found the sessions useful because they covered both the practical and theoretical sides of first aid. We didn’t just learn how to do it—we also learned why it’s important and how to apply it in real situations”.

The students were thoroughly engaged, especially in the practical element of the course; they  individually performed CPR on the mannequin and placed their patient in the recovery position. All students will now receive a certificate demonstrating their achievement.
