Hair & Beauty
Subject Vision
Designed to re-engage learners through practical, hands-on learning that builds confidence, routine, and employability skills. Introducing learners to professional behaviours, health and safety, and foundational hair and beauty techniques within a safe, supportive, industry-inspired environment. The curriculum is carefully sequenced to remove barriers to learning, particularly for learners with SEND or SEMH needs, and places strong emphasis on communication, teamwork, and personal development. The subject prepares learners for clear progression routes, including Level 2 study, vocational training, or entry-level employment, ensuring they leave with increased confidence, transferable skills, and a positive attitude towards learning and work.
Aims
The Level 1 NOCN Hair and Beauty qualification provides learners with a practical introduction to the hair and beauty sector. It is designed to build confidence, routine, employability skills, and sector awareness, while developing the foundational skills needed to progress to Level 2 study, training, or employment.
Intent
The Level 1 NOCN Hair and Beauty curriculum is designed to re engage learners through practical, hands on experiences that build confidence, routine, and essential employability skills. At its core, the programme introduces students to the professional expectations of the hair and beauty industry, including safe working practices, positive workplace behaviours, and the foundational techniques required for further study or employment.
Learning takes place within a safe, supportive, and industry-inspired environment where students are encouraged to develop curiosity, resilience, and pride in their work. The curriculum is carefully sequenced to remove barriers to learning, particularly for those with SEND or SEMH needs, ensuring that every learner can access, enjoy, and succeed in the subject.
Communication, teamwork, and personal development are embedded throughout, enabling students to grow not only as emerging practitioners but as confident young adults ready to contribute positively to their community. By the end of the course, learners are equipped with transferable skills, improved self-esteem, and a clear understanding of progression pathways, including Level 2 qualifications, vocational training, or entry level employment.
Our intent is to ensure that every learner leaves with a renewed sense of purpose, a positive attitude towards learning and work, and the foundational skills needed to take their next steps in the hair and beauty sector.
