Subject Vision
Our curriculum develops excellent communicators, with the confidence, skills and knowledge to continually advance on their language journey. Through exposure to another language, students gain rich cultural capital, whereby they value the diverse history, customs, arts and literature of other places.
Aims
The national curriculum for languages aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources.
- Speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation.
- Can write at varying lengths, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt.
- Discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied.
Intent
The curriculum we offer our students reflects the aims and aspirations we have for them. It reflects the world students live in, using contexts familiar to them in their everyday lives and giving them insight into the culture of Spain and other Spanish speaking countries. Our curriculum at key stages 2 and 3 is based on the national curriculum and we aim to produce confident, capable and articulate linguists who learn to improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills with a range of vocabulary, tenses and complex structures. We also include grammar progression in our lessons. In addition, our students are able to express opinions and offer justifications.

We aim to give students the knowledge, understanding and skills to progress onto the next stage of their education, irrespective of their prior attainment. We also produce students with high aspirations, resilience and independence so that they can maximise the opportunities they are given to progress. In addition to this, we provide a broad curriculum through the key stages to allow students to maximise their attainment by developing the skills and talents they already hold. Lastly, we provide students with a range of enrichment opportunities to help them become responsible citizens who can make a positive contribution to society and the community.
