Pastoral Care
At Bournville All-Through School, pastoral care sits at the heart of our community. We believe that every child thrives when they feel safe, respected, and understood. We work proactively to build trusting relationships that support each pupil’s wellbeing from early years through to Year 11. Our staff champion the whole child, recognising their individuality and nurturing their personal, social, and emotional development alongside their academic growth.
We create an environment where pupils are encouraged to speak openly, seek help confidently, and develop resilience as they navigate each stage of school life. Families are valued partners in this journey, and we work closely with them to ensure that every child receives consistent, compassionate support. Through a culture of kindness, inclusion, and high expectations, we empower our pupils to flourish, contribute positively to their community, and step into the future with confidence.

The Role of the Form Tutor – Bournville School
At Bournville All-Through School the role of the Form Tutor has been given a greater level of focus. We understand its importance of this time and the students start each day by meeting with their tutor. This empowers tutors to be the prominent carer for tutees in school.
Tutors are the first person a student sees each morning and the first link in the pastoral chain of support. The relationship a child has with their form tutor is often very different to that of any other teacher; it’s a vital relationship for students and their future successes. Tutors over time really get to know their tutees; their strengths, the things they like doing, who they are friends with, what they enjoy doing outside of school, where they struggle, and what their biggest challenges are. Every morning tutors will welcome students, reset them into their professional role at school, ensuring they are prepared, punctual and ready to learn.
With warmth and care, students are greeted by tutors each morning, to reflect on the successes and mistakes of the previous day. Tutors help students to learn from their mistakes and celebrate successes, character development being central to the teaching they impart. Tutors understand that at Bournville All-Through School, tutor time is just as important as the lessons students enjoy and the curriculum content is full and includes sessions on literacy, numeracy and Character Education. Tutors appreciate they are developing citizens of the future, who have the character traits to succeed and thrive in modern Britain.
There is a great deal of joy too! This year we will see tutor groups compete and enjoy competitions and activities as they represent their Houses: Austin, Boulton, Cadbury and Tolkien.
Ultimately, form tutors have a pivotal role. Getting it right means that our students have the foundation they need to flourish. We thank our tutors for all that they do.
Form tutors can be contacted by email. Please see the Key Staff lists in the Primary and Secondary campus part of the website.

Birmingham City Football Club Mentoring
Bournville School has the incredible opportunity to be working in partnership with Birmingham City Football Club this year. BCFC mentor, Ashleigh, is in school two days a week delivering the ‘Change’ mentoring programme which teaches selected students that they can dream big, aim high and overcome obstacles if they put their mind to it. Students value their mentoring sessions which give them time to discuss and reflect in small groups. They are positive about having time to develop their skills of self-regulation and resilience.
There are also regular football training sessions open to all students during social times and after school. Sessions are well attended, the opportunity to train with BCFC coaches is a fantastic incentive for students! This partnership enhances not only our enrichment programme but also supports the pastoral team by inspiring some of our most vulnerable students.
