Bournville Against Bullying - Students
We follow-up on each incident of bullying that is reported to us and do our best to educate all students
on how to effectively deal with bullying if it does occur.
What is Bullying?
There are many definitions of bullying, but most consider it to be:
- Deliberately hurtful (including aggression)
- Repeated over a period of time
- Difficult for those being bullied to defend themselves against
Bullying can take many forms, but three main types are:
- Physical: hitting, kicking, taking belongings
- Verbal: name-calling, insulting, making offensive remarks
- Indirect: spreading nasty stories about someone, exclusion from social groups, being made
the subject of malicious rumours, sending malicious emails or text messages on mobile phones
Bullying by Mobile Phones and MSN
Children should be careful who they give their phone number to, and keep a record of the date
and time of any offensive messages. Any bullying text messages should be saved and shown to a
parent or teacher. If such bullying has been carried out by one or more pupils on a persistent
basis, or there has been a threat of violence, it will need to be dealt with seriously. The same
also applies to malicious emails sent by other pupils. Parents should inform the Police and your
child's Student Progress Leader.
Misuse of the Internet, whether generated at home or school, will be punished in line with school's
behaviour policy which may ultimately result in possible exclusion.

into trouble yourself.
