Bournville leads the way in G&T
We are very excited to let you know that we have been selected in the first group of school's to work with partner schools as a Leading Edge Specialist School in Gifted and Talented provision. The full implications of this are not yet known but we take this as yet another very positive sign that we are doing some great work here at Bournville with our most able students.

  Year 7 Students finally join in
Our year 7 G&T group have now finally been selected following a delay due to the CATs (Cognitive Ability Test) that they completed in September. We will be writing to all families concerned shortly to welcome them to the programme and ensure they are involved in the remaining activities of the year.

  Team Challenge Competition 2008 CDs available
We will be once again launching the Team Challenge competition with the students during June, with the presentation evening date to be confirmed. If you would like to relive some of the fun from last year's competition then we would be glad to copy a CD with all the videos and presentations from the evening. Unfortunately the files are too large for me to email. We would like to film the whole evening this year, so if any parents out there fancy themselves as a bit of a whiz with a video camera we'd be glad to hear from you!

  Year 11 G&T'ers looking good for summer GCSE's
Our Year 11 G&T students have recently been taking mock GCSE exams and their results are showing that all are achieving above their target grades (those set by the school and based on previous SAT results). If they continue to work hard through the next few months then they can expect to achieve at least 12 GCSE's above their targets, making them our most successful year 11 students ever.

  Year 11 Mathematicians going all out for A*
Our most able mathematicians are being supported with G&T funding to attend a course in Walsall next Month. It is expected that more than a 90% of our G&T students will achieve a grade A or A* in Maths this year.

  Bournville's talented musicians take up the challenge
In February Bournville hosted the South West Area Gifted and Talented Music Showcase. A cornucopia of talented youngest descended upon the school for a exceptional evening's entertainment. A number of the acts have now been selected to participate in the Birmingham Soundcity showcase - such was the high calibre! Amongst them was the fabulous Bournville Band "KP and the Smoothies" who are now rehearsing for the annual finale. Congratulations guys!

  The Talented Programme is on it's way
The development of G&T provision at Bournville has so far concentrated on establishing a programme of support and challenge for our academically gifted students, which we are very pleased with. We have now turned some of our attention to developing a programme to meet the needs of our incredibly talented young musicians, actors, sportspeople and artists. In some cases students may be considered part of both programmes. We are still in planning for this programme and will continue to keep you informed.
