Sixth Form: What to Expect
In year 12:
- Students have a personal tutor to support and guide them through their studies. Tutors are
also responsible for the students' general wellbeing and progress.
- Form tutors set targets and action plans with student, monitor progress, sort out any problems,
advise on future career and higher education choices and generally support students to achieve their best.
- Students are in 'vertical form groups'- this allows year 12 students access to the expertise and
experience of the year 13 students- high aspirations and another from of support.
- All A level students in year 12 will take 4 A levels. Usually BTEC students choose a package of
qualifications that best suit their future career or further study requirements.
- A full two week induction programme to help students settle in.
- Students take part in enrichment activities such as supporting staff in their lessons or taking part
in the Sixth Form Management Group for example.
- Trips, visits, extra curricula activities, parties, discos, residentials take place.
Three senior staff also help run the Sixth form alongside our dedicated administration manager. Again these staff
offer further support, guidance and advice for all students in the Sixth Form.
The Sixth Form have a timetabled tutorial session, once a week. It is designed to develop 'independent' learning
skills. The Sixth Form also study AS General Studies. These additional tutorial and General Studies sessions are
designed to equip students with the 'skills' needed to be a successful student and equip them with the skills for
life and education beyond Bournville.
Make no mistake: Sixth Form studies require hard work and effort and a high degree of motivation- but it is also FUN!
