Sixth Form: News
Bournville Sixth Form
Very successful, but not complacent!
Before Christmas a complete review of the Sixth Form at Bournville was
carried out. During the review Mr Plester and his team looked at exam
results, visited lessons and asked the views of parents, teachers and
students.
Some information about the 6th form:
- The 6th form has 175 students- 65 in year 13 all studyng A levels
and 110 in year 12, most taking AS levels and some talking
BTEC Business level 2.
- Students have the luxury of their own common room and
resource room fully equipped with computers, as well as two
further study rooms and the use of the school library.
- An experienced team of staff support the students including tutors, Dawn Merricks (admin
support for the 6th form- though students will tell you she does much, much more than this!),
Mrs Fenney, (Student Progress Leader for year 12), Mr Midworth (Director of 6th form) and
Mr Plester (Assistant Headteacher).
- Bournville Sixth Form is the largest provider of further education in The Oaks Collegiate Sixth
Form College).
The results of the review were extremely positive. Here are a few highlights:
- Teaching and learning are very good.
- Results are in line with other schools and colleges nationally.
- Parents are extremely positive about all aspects of the 6th form.
- Students are also very positive.
- Students particularly enjoy the sports competitions with other school 6th forms in The Oaks
Collegiate- Bournville won the last basketball match!
- There is a full Induction Programme at the start of year 12 that students and parents find very
informative and useful.
- Students have the opportunities to go on trips as part of their studies and visits to Universities
to raise their aspirations.
- There is a broad range of subjects to study, particularly at level 3.
- One of the main reasons why students stay on at Bournville is because of the huge amount
of support that students are given by staff that further education colleges are not always able
to offer.
- Support for UCAS (university) applications is a strength of the 6th form.
- The majority of students continue into higher education or secure full-time employment.
- The Student Management Group has a significant say on the running of the sixth form.
- More and more students stay on in the 6th form often helped by the EMA allowance where
students are paid to attend lessons. Attendance has also improved!
We believe that Bournville Sixth Form is one of the best.
However, we are always trying to make it better for the
students, ensuring they achieve their full potential.
If you are in year 11 and are thinking about applying to the
6th form, make sure you get your application in as soon as
possible. You can collect an application form and return the
completed one to Dawn Merricks in the Keynes Office.
