Parents and Carers

Welcome to the Bournville School Parents and Carers section

ePortal Launch

ePortal provides a web based view of the school’s system by using Internet Explorer to access the system.

Using ePortal you will have access to the data held for any student you are parentally responsible for. You will be able to view personal details and contact numbers, attendance details, conduct logs, report and assessment information and SATS results.

You will not be able to modify any information but if you find that some details are incorrect then please get in touch with the school to ensure that they are updated.

Using ePortal is exactly the same as using any other webpage. If you are familiar with the internet you will have no problems finding your way around, if you are less familiar you will find everything you need to know has been included in the guide provided. Please see the links under 'ePortal Info' (top right menu)

Swine Flu

Could we take this opportunity to remind people that the best way of preventing infection is through the maintenance of normal good hygiene procedures. The use of tissues when coughing or sneezing (which should be disposed of immediately after use), and the frequent washing of hands are essential in stopping the spread of any infections. We have no objection if parents wish to provide their children with small bottles of antiseptic hand wash to help maintain good hygiene.

For further advice please check the following website:   NHS - Swine flu

Consultation on Foundation Status

At the consultation meeting for parents last night (17th March) I presented a PowerPoint to help parents understand what Foundation Status means and how it might impact on the school. At the end of the meeting parents suggested that it might be useful for those parents who were unable to be here to see what was said, by publishing the PowerPoint presentation on the school website.

Emergency Closures

If weather conditions become bad enough to close schools the City Council usually makes the decision centrally. Sometimes, there are reasons just to close one school, such as a burst pipe, which the Headteacher will decide on. Whatever the event parents and carers will usually be informed via local radio stations:
  • Heart FM - 100.7fm
  • Radio WM - 95.6fm
  • BRMB - 96.4fm
Also check the following websites:

 BRMB
 Heart FM
 BBC Radio WM
 The Met Office
 Birmingham Local Gov

We will also endeavour to send a text to all parents but if the school is closed then it might not be possible for staff to do this.

Fair Processing Notice

At the end of September this year, 2008, parents and carers were given a letter informing them of their rights under the Data Protection Act of 1998, in relation to the use of information in the new 'ContactPoint' system run by Connexions:

 Fair Processing Notice

The deadline for handing back the reply slip to the school was October 2008. Please bear in mind that if you haven't replied using the slip from the original letter, the information requested by 'ContactPoint' will be passed on and used.
