Library: Accessibility

Apart from timetabled lessons, the Library is open access to everyone. During timetabled lessons, extra students are accommodated as appropriate, consideration being given to space and activity limitations. Departments or individual staff may book blocks of lessons or one-off periods as needs arise. Booking should be made in writing, as far in advance of sessions as possible. MAM will teach the class, lead lessons and/or support staff, as appropriate, according to individual needs. For regular sessions over lengthy periods, please try to book at least half a term in advance to avoid disappointment.

As needs arise during lessons, unaccompanied students may be sent to the Library in small groups or individually. Supervision is always available. Provided there is space they will be accommodated. When sending unaccompanied students, please ensure that:

  • They have a Library pass. Each member of staff will be issued with 6 official laminated passes which can be given to pupils when sent out of the lesson and handed in to the teacher on return. (No writing involved).
  • They have clear instructions as to what they are trying to achieve (in writing to MAM if possible, so that appropriate help can be given).
  • They carry with them equipment needed to record their findings.
  • They know what time they are expected to return to the lesson.
  • They know that they must sign in and out of the Library as proof that they have spent the allotted time there.
