What to do when you revise

Revision Guide: Tips and Advice

Here are some tips on how to do it.

Use a calendar to work out how many weeks or days there are to your exams and plan how much time to give to each subject

Decide how much time to do each day - on a school day, an average of an hour and a half to two hours should do (if you've slogged it in school too!)

Don't ever plan to spend the whole day revising (like at weekends)! Your mind just can't take it and I've never known anyone to do it

Plan in regular days when you don't do any revision. This is so you can relax without worrying about the revision you are not doing, because you've planned for it at other times.

Make yourself a comfortable study area - plenty of pens and paper, water - but not so comfortable that you drift off! Sitting at a table is good, because that's what you'll have to do in your exams

Do 25 min work on a subject, give yourself a little break, and then do another 25 min on a different area in that subject

Review what you did in the last session

Ask someone at home to monitor how much time you spend (they can help you stay on task and also stop you from doing too much!)

Be strong - turn off your mobile and shutdown your MSN. Reward yourself after a session's work by turning these things back on

Use the TV wisely - record your favourite programmes whilst you work and then watch them when you've finished

Work with a friend- it's fun, less boring, and really works- as long as you do actually revise!
