Mr I MacKenzie
Chair of Governors
I started my involvement with Bournville school a number of years ago when my own son was a pupil here.
He has now gone on to have a very successful career of his own, but I have enjoyed staying involved with
the school as a governor. I use to work for the local authority but, being retired, I have the flexibility
sometimes to come in to school during the day.
I love the school performances - I believe the quality of what our young people produce in this school is second
to none.

I’m a Local Authority Governor at Bournville School. I benefited from a good education, and I
wanted to volunteer as a governor to try and give something back to my local community. I live
locally in Bournville, and I’m employed as Head of Telecoms at the University of Birmingham. My
job has responsibility for the provision of communication systems across a large business, and I’d
like to use this experience to help the school.

Bournville is a happy, safe and stimulating place where students can enjoy their learning and are supported

believe that my parenting, work and life experiences hold me in good stead to make a positive
contribution to Bournville School in particular, and the community in general. My philosophy centres
around the promotion of basic core life values like respect, tolerance, humility and understanding.
Ms J Lodge

I am a Parent Governor; my daughter is in year 7. I work in Higher Education, teaching Microbiology
and Gene Cloning in the School of Biosciences at the University of Birmingham. I am also the Admissions
Tutor for the Biosciences courses. I am very keen to get young people interested in studying science at
school and beyond and to encourage students from a variety of backgrounds to participate in Higher Education.
I believe that this is very important both for the young people concerned and for the wider economy; as a
nation we need a highly skilled work force.

Staff - teacher
I am currently in my fifth year of teaching having previously worked in private sector management. Having
only been at Bournville since September this year I hope I can approach the task of helping to improve the
school from a fresh perspective.
I take a keen interest in interventions to improve pupil motivation and
attainment, having recently completed an MEd in which I researched the use of VAK Learning Styles, Multiple
Intelligences and Learning to Learn skills.
While a teacher I have also worked for the National Foundation
for Educational Research and for the QCA, experiences which have given me an insight into areas of education
outside schools that I hope will be useful.
Miss S McKenzie
Clerk to Governors
This is my first year as clerk to the governors. As clerk I’m involved in a number administrative activities, including
taking minutes for the meetings. I enjoy the role and look forward to carrying on with my work as clerk to the governors.
Along with my role as clerk I also work at Bournville as a Faculty Support Manager for two of the faculties,
Humanities and Expressive Arts; providing administrative support and taking on cover lessons when needed. Part
of the support I provide to Expressive Arts is helping out before or during school performances with advertising and
ticket sales.
Mr T Chapple
Community
I work in procurement for Cadbury and enjoy linking between my working life and the school,
particularly the activities that young people do in business and enterprise. I have young
children of my own and many of my family are involved in schools, so I feel I have an understanding
of the importance of good schooling in children's lives.
Mr C Stonehouse
Community
I have lived in Selly Oak for almost thirty years now. After training as a science teacher, I have taught in several
Birmingham secondary schools before moving to New College Worcester, a specialist school for students with a visual
impairment. I have a particular interest in ensuring the needs of the students with sensory needs at Bournville are
being supported effectively.
Mrs P Barker
Community
I have lived and worked in Birmingham for thirty years. I became a parent governor when my son was in
Year 7 and served for 8 years. When that term ended I was delighted to be asked to remain part of Bournville
as a community governor. I have been Chair of the Learning Provision Committee and I believe that what is taught is
the most important part of the school.
