Induction – September 2009
There will be a change to our usual practice for students returning to school in September.
On Friday 4th September
- Y7, 10, 12, 13 will be in school (Y13 at 8:40am, Y12 at 12 noon)
- Y8, 9, 11 complete special online activities at home or in school
All students attend school as usual Monday 7th September
The online activities will go live in the two weeks before the term starts so students can log on
and complete the work as they have time. Knowing that not all our students have access to the internet
at home there will be facilities made available in school on 4th Sept for those students who need them.
They should report to E23.
We are very excited at this change in procedure. We hope that our students will be able to demonstrate
maturity and their ability to work independently. Should this trial work then we will know we can apply
it at other times. These will be when we know students will benefit from the freedom to plan their own
work.
Further details
Special induction activities are planned for all the students starting new courses - Y7, 10, 12 and 13 –
in school on Friday 4th September. These will prepare them for the new academic year and the change up they
are making, whether into secondary school, into GCSEs, into AS or into A2.
Y8, 9 and 11 students will not actually return to school until Monday 7th September however they are expected
to be working on school activities on Friday 4th. This will be via the Internet with a specially devised
induction course delivered online from the school website, on the moodle VLE.
Up to 5 hours worth of activity has been designed for students to complete. This includes an online review of
the programme. This review can only be completed properly if the set activities have all been attempted. As
the moodle VLE records student log-on it will be easy to identify all who have completed the work (or not!).
Students who complete the work will find themselves better prepared for the new year. The usual consequences
will apply to students who do not complete the tasks set them.
