Haiti Earthquake Appeal
Help for Haiti
On Friday 22nd January Bournville School & Sixth Form Centre held a non-uniform day in
support of the Rotary Club of Birmingham’s appeal for aid for Haiti, specifically in
purchasing Shelter Boxes.
Throughout the week students at the school experienced assemblies focused on widening
their world knowledge and emotional response to such disasters by learning about the current
situation in Haiti, and the devastation in the aftermath of the earthquake.
All assemblies were led by staff member Mr Azore, a native Haitian, who shared his personal
experience, making a significant contribution to developing students’ appreciation of world
issues.
On Friday, Year 8 students were lucky enough to also have Mr Stuart Guy, from the Rotary Club of
Birmingham, explaining in detail the essential role of Shelter Boxes in keeping together families
who have been affected by the earthquake. So far the school has raised a total of £1,500 for the
charity.
What can we provide with the money we raise?
