Duke of Edinburgh – Bronze Award training

At the weekend I took part in the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh training. On Saturday at school we did multiple things like building tents, learning how to pack a bag properly and planning our route for the training expedition. We also learned how to read a map and how to use the stove. I really enjoyed working as a team to build the tent.  It wasn’t as hard as I thought and it was fun, I also enjoyed using the stove because we got to make hot chocolate!

On Sunday we met early at the Lickey Hills to put our new skills into practice.  We started with orienteering skills.  For the first time I used a compass and read the map to navigate around.  There was also plenty of strenuous walking. My favourite part was the orienteering because it was difficult and we got lost but it was fun to find our way back.
