Bournville School and the Oaks Collegiate will be running the biggest Enterprise Pathfinder Project in the Country for a second time this year. The Project gives our year 10 students and year 10 students from across our ten Collegiate schools (900 students in all) the opportunity to take part in a joint venture with national businesses to solve real life business issues.
The project lasts for a week and will take place during July 2005. On the first day of the project students will go to a venue in Birmingham where they will learn about enterprise and entrepreneurship through a production hosted by well known local and national entrepreneurs..
They will then spend a day at the business premises where they can carry out any necessary research. And the rest of the week will be spent working with a professional Facilitator to work up a solution to the challenge to be presented to the business partner on the Friday.
Last year's project was amazingly successful with many businesses being so impressed with the students' solutions that they have incorporated them into their own business plans.
Because of this success we are pleased to welcome back businesses such as McDonalds, LDV, Marks and Spencer, Severn Trent Water, NatWest, and EEF. We are also delighted to be joined by new business partners this year including Kalamazoo and hopefuly, BRMB and Virgin Records.
As a fundraising enterprise Bellfield Junior School wanted to design and sell a calendar. They were invited to Bournville School to get expert help and use the state of the art facilities available here.
Under the supervision of Mrs Taitt, a group of thirty Year 6 students spent two days with us in the Art Block and the ICT suites. They produced a brilliant calendar which was an instant bestseller and helped to raise much needed funds for their school.
For 2005 we are going to extend this idea across all our feeder Primary schools starting with an art competition for entry in the calendar for 2006. The funds raised will be shared between the schools and the Edwards Trust Hospice for Children.
We want to encourage Enterprise activities in our Primary Schools and are always looking for ideas for activities which involve collaboration between us, (our staff OR students) and the Primaries.
If you have any ideas for Primary Enterprise Activities please contact Maria Holden or Jackie Taitt at the Business Centre (264)
