Due to Covid restrictions, organisation of house competitions has temporarily ceased as we prioritise keeping students in their year group bubbles. We look forward to relaunching once safe to do so.
At Bournville, we have six forms in each year group and in every year group two forms belong to one of our three different houses: Cadbury, Boulton and Tolkien.
Every two weeks, we add up the amount of Griffins students in each form in a year group have been awarded for effort in lessons. We then calculate the average attendance of each form in a year group. One form in each year group is then awarded the ‘Form Award’ which earns their house three points. The School Council representative for that form collects the traditional trophy and the form keep it for two weeks.
Every half term there are also a number of house competitions in different subjects which students compete in with the winner receiving twenty points for their house, the runner up earning fifteen and third place being awarded five house points.
At the end of each half term, students from different year groups gather for their house assemblies in Elgar Hall to celebrate the successes of their house over the half term and we also award one house our House Cup.
At the end of each year, all the fortnightly form awards, house competitions and sports day totals are calculated and we award our annual House Shield – with the winning house having their name engraved into the annals of history.
