Yr 10 Girls Basketball Match Report (2012)

Bournville v King Edwards Academy Sheldon Heath

Having waited over an hour for the opposition to arrive from Sheldon Heath (they'd had minibus driver difficulties), we had had plenty of time to get ourselves thoroughly warmed up and practising passing and shooting to get our heads in the game (you would think!). Consequently, the final match of the season was one to remember!

We had a worrying start as Zaina won the ball and began heading towards the opposition's basket! Fortunately that was short lived and the ball was intercepted! We defended strong and made some good interceptions too. Katie worked hard to bring the ball over the half way line but then spent a lot of the time on the floor, Shanielle played really well in support and Amanda managed to use her height to her advantage, winning many of the rebounds and scoring many points. At half time, the score was a close 8-6 with us in the lead.

The team listened well to coaching by Charlotte and Sithara during the break and as a result, the second half saw Chloe score her first basket ever, Sunnali did a fantastic left hand lay up, Becky nearly lost her voice from shouting at her team and Sophena was stealing balls left right and centre, including before the other team had even passed the ball in from the sideline!

It was a tough game, but we played even better towards the end and finished ahead with 22-14. Well done team!

Top Scorer: Amanda K! (Followed by Becky!)

Players: Becky M, Katie C, Amanda K, Shanielle P, Zaina M, Chloe M, Sunnali M, Sophena W.

Coach: Charlotte Baker

Score official: Sithara Modarage

Referee: Miss Tully

Year 10 Basketball (2011)

The year 10 girls basketball team are doing very well at the moment. Having returned to the Birmingham Schools Basketball League after a year off. Team members include:

Rebecca, Katie, Zaina, Amanda, Shanielle, Chloe, Sophena, Kavindiya, Lucy.

We have had only two matches so far and have come closely behind in both matches. That might sound like we aren't doing well at all, but it has been close.

The first game we played away against Shenley and the second game we played at home against Bishop Challoner. In the second game we played better and more efficiently, as our passing was good and we were using space well on offence. We also managed to intercept and turnover a few balls. Also it was closer, so this shows we are improving. With help from our great coaches, Charlotte Baker and Emma Summers from sixth form. Not forgetting Miss Tully.

We are definitely enjoying, learning and improving in our training sessions and matches. Our training sessions are on Tuesdays from 3:10pm to about 4:20pm. Throughout the games we evaluate what we are doing well and what we can improve in. We see it in ourselves and in other team players. With our coaches on the sidelines shouting at us we certainly have good support. Being able to see what we need to improve in helps us in training because we know what to focus on.
